Proposal Packet

What is the purpose of Wal-Mart's supplier proposal guide?

The aim of the supplier proposal guide is to introduce potential suppliers to our company and share basic facts about our business philosophy and practices.

Wal-Mart is committed to establishing relationships with diverse businesses. If you are a minority/woman-owned business, you may indicate your minority status (certificate required) on the questionnaire. You may obtain certification through either the National Minority Development Council or the Women's Business Enterprise National Council.

Our number one commitment is to satisfy our customers, and through the products and services our suppliers help us provide, we aim to fulfill this commitment to our customers.

Please note: Completion of the supplier questionnaire does not guarantee a supplier number. The authorized buyer at the home office makes buying decisions for all programs.

National Supplier Program (Domestic Suppliers Only)

Potential suppliers wanting to introduce their products through the national program may access the Online Product Submission through our Web site (Compatible with Internet Explorer only)

Local Purchase Program

If your business wishes to supply five Districts or less, you must present your "for resale" merchandise at store level to only the store manager. You will receive a local supplier questionnaire if the store is interested in selling your product. This five-page questionnaire gives step-by-step instructions and requirements for becoming a local supplier.

The questionnaire must be filled out, signed, and mailed to the address on the form. The home office buyer will review your paperwork. If approved, you will receive the vendor agreement. If rejected, you will receive a letter stating the reason for rejection.

This process is required in order to receive a supplier number. No purchase orders or merchandise may be placed in the store until an approved vendor number is obtained by the supplier from the Home Office.

Services/Non-resale

If you are a non-resale/service suppliers, fill out the Service or Non-Retail Supplier Questionnaire, print and mail to address listed on the form.

Direct Imports Program

A supplier that does not meet criteria for becoming a product domestic supplier may want to explore the direct import program by calling the Global Procurement Office to begin the process of obtaining an Import Supplier number. The Import Department is a separate department from domestic. All inquiries regarding imports must be addressed with the Import Department.

What happens with my proposal?

Supplier Development will review your application if company meets qualifications then forward it to the appropriate buyer. The buyer may schedule a meeting to discuss business opportunities or may simply send an email to the supplier requesting that a more detailed questionnaire be filled out and the supplier purchases of Dun & Bradstreet (Supplier Evaluation Report). Following this submission, the buyer may grant the vendor agreement to be filled out and signed by the supplier. From this agreement we will establish a supplier number for your company. This is required before an order may be placed. Once a buyer makes the decision to either purchase your product or decline it, you will receive an email with either next steps or with an explanation of why the product was not a fit for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. at this time.

We're glad you chose to explore doing business with us. We are committed to providing value, quality merchandise, and service for our customers.
