Through the Better Health Care Together Coalition, we’re joining with leaders from business, labor, government and academia to call for reform to American health care.

Health care costs are growing at an unsustainable pace

Across the country, too many Americans live without health coverage. At the current rate, by 2010 health care costs will be double what they were in 2000, or roughly one-fifth of the nation’s GDP. That puts a tremendous burden on our government and our economy.

We’re working together for change

To address these problems, in February 2007, Wal-Mart, AT&T, the Howard H. Baker, Jr. Center for Public Policy, the Center for American Progress, the Committee for Economic Development, the Communications Workers of America, Intel, Kelly Services and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) launched the Better Health Care Together Coalition.

We’re working together for solutions

Our participation in the Better Health Care Together coalition reflects our belief that business, labor and government have to work together to solve the nation’s health care challenge. And each should contribute to managing and financing a new American health care system. Working together we want to ensure that:

  • All Americans will have high quality, affordable and accessible health care by 2012.
  • Every person in America has access to affordable health insurance coverage.
  • The growth of health care costs in this country are slowed.
  • America improves the value and quality of service it receives for every health care dollar.
  • People understand they have a responsibility to maintain and protect their own health.
