Health IT

Information technology has the power to bring greater efficiency and better quality to health care. When American health care fully harnesses information technology, we see the potential for fewer medical errors and fewer dollars wasted.

Joining with leaders in the industry to bring the vision to life

Through our partnership called “Dossia,” we’re collaborating with Applied Materials, AT&T, BP America, Cardinal Health, Intel, Pitney Bowes, and Sanofi aventis to introduce greater efficiency into health care. Using our combined knowledge and expertise in information technology, we’re working together to build a framework for secure and portable electronic medical records. Electronic health records can help reduce administrative costs in the health care system and eliminate the medical errors that cause thousands of unnecessary deaths every year. For our associates, electronic health records will provide a safe and secure way to hold on to and access their medical information. Wal-Mart will provide its associates and their families, including retirees, with personal, private and portable electronic health records by the end of 2010.
