Wal-Mart is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month September 1 – October 15 by helping our Hispanic customers and neighbors further their education. Our new Spanish-language Web site, AhorraMasViveMejor.com, helps parents and their children learn all about college admission process. The site helps families plan and budget for college with tips on preparing for tests, selecting a school and applying for college, scholarships and loans.

Part of a national effort

The site is part of our national advertising campaign under the tagline "The Greatest Heritage is a Good Education" which will feature profiles of recent Walmart/HSF scholarship recipients on TV, radio, print, online and in our Viviendo magazine. The publication will also include articles on how to start the financial aid search early and pursue a career in the most in-demand fields.

The scholarship winners include students who have triumphed academically with help from the Wal-Mart Foundation, which donated more than $67 million in the last year to education organizations and programs such as the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF). You can learn about these students by watching a few videos here.

The interactive offering

Created for students and parents, AhorraMasViveMejor.com will offer insight into preparing for college, planning and budgeting. Online users will have access to tools and resources such as studying skills, test preparatory, loan information, scholarships, colleges and applications. The interactive site will fully integrate viewers with an enhanced knowledge of the overall steps necessary for pursuing a college education and will address questions and answers that are typical of the college admission process.

Wal-Mart also plans to recognize several recent scholarship recipients who, with Wal-Mart’s financial support, have triumphed and achieved academic excellence. Through company sponsored scholarship programs and partnerships with organizations like the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), the Wal-Mart Foundation has made a philanthropic commitment by donating more than $67 million in the last year to education-focused organizations. Our commitment to the Hispanic community

“Highlighting the importance of educational advancement is an ideal way to honor Hispanic heritage,” said Gisel Ruiz, vice president and regional general manager, U.S. Walmart Stores. “By doing so, we can inspire and shape success for future generations to come, ultimately helping people live better lives.”

We employ more than 165,000 Hispanic associates, and for the third year in a row, we were named one of the “50 Best Companies for Latinas” by LATINA Style Magazine. Additionally, we tailor each of our store’s shopping experience through our “Store of the Community” concept, which customizes store designs and merchandise mix to reflect our Hispanic customers’ wants and needs.
